A message from
Martin Grant, Owner/Chief Inspector, Noteworthy Property
Inspections:
"As a home inspector I see many older
fireplaces and chimneys. Sometimes a limited visual inspection can determine the
need for repairs or cleaning, but often it is necessary for us to recommend a
Level II video inspection. In it's recent press release CREIA emphasizes the
importance of fireplace and chimney inspections to avoid fires. In a separate
article I have provided details of some different chimney inspection options and
resources.
New home improvement contract requirements
came into effect on January 1 to make them more informative and easier to
understand. We have included a copy of the CSLB announcement which includes a
link to additional information on their website. When carrying out a home
improvement project, whether hiring a contractor or doing-it-yourself, consider
an inspection as part of the process - the benefits are discussed in the
attached article.
Finally, in what could become a future
trend, the City of Stanton is now requiring City inspections of every property
prior to sale to check for building code violations. Although I offer
no personal opinion on the value of these inspections, I have reprinted an
article from the Orange County Register on this subject which offers a
strong opinion against."
