A message from Martin Grant, Owner/Chief Inspector, Noteworthy Property Inspections:

"In it's latest press release, the California Real Estate Inspection Association (CREIA) discusses the importance of ongoing education for home inspectors and educational opportunities available. All CREIA members must obtain at least 30 CECs each year to maintain their Certification. I believe we can never get enough education, and as such, I have prepared a number of educational presentations to provide Realtors with information on the home inspection profession. You can read about the available presentations in our second feature article, and if you would like to schedule a presentation there is a form you can complete and fax back to me.
I have an interesting article from the MSN Money website which provides tips on "how to spot a shabby remodel". While your home inspector will certainly pick up on the clues, this article will help you know what to look out for beyond the nice new flooring and paint in your initial walkthrough.
I am often asked how long a piece of equipment may last. Obviously their is no definitive answer to this, however the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) publishes a list of life expectancies which we have provided in this edition of the newsletter. The NAHB guidelines can be relied upon as industry accepted estimates of life expectancy.
Finally, I'm providing an introductory article on Sustainable (Green) Building. Whether remodeling or new construction, sustainable (green) building techniques are on the increase, and may well be "the next big thing" in building and remodeling. Take this opportunity to learn some basics on the subject."
